Default ATI Linux Driver Petition

Hello all,

I'm sure many of you have already seen this but I want to see this reach
as many people as possible. It's an "ATI Petition for Adequate Drivers
in Linux".

just dont use ATI products: i recently changed a new ATI 9200 SE
card for a similar spec nVidia because i *could not* get the drivers
to work. either the Open Source ones or the ATI supplied.
the nVidia stuff just worked.

ok its worth a try, just don't hold your breath for ATI to take any notice

best just to avoid their products

I replaced a ATI 9600XT with a Nvidia 6800ultra, and all my strange
problems went away. The Nvidia drivers just worked with zero pain of any
sort

the ATI "driver" caused display corruption when using VMware in full
screen mode, plus the whole machine locked solid when exiting X etc

in short, ATI = Bad for Linux, Nvidia = Good for Linux
