Default bootstrap.sh IOError 5

Hi all!

Relatively new to Linux. I installed Mandrake about 6 months ago, but it
self destructed after about 3 months. My buddy recommended Gentoo. So I
read the installation guide (twice) for a stage 1 install. Only passed out
twice. Decided to give it a try. I started last night at about 8:30 p.m.
Edited the conf for KDE. By 9:30, I was running the bootstrap.sh script.
By 11:00, it was still running so I went to sleep. (Don't laugh, I work,
have a family...)

When I woke up this morning there was an error. Imagine my surprise. It
was an IO error 5. The prompt was still at "portage #". I tried an
ADSL-status for this prompt, but that failed. Any ideas would be gladly
received.

cheers,
Matt.

I used the journalized EXT3 for dev/hdb1, swap for dev/hdb2, and reiserfs
for hdb3. I don't know if any more info is required. Yes, it is the second
hard disk on my system. (Wife won't let me take out Windows just yet....)

cheers,
Matt.

Can you paste the last 10-15 lines of output including error output?

Hi Jon!

Not easily. But I will post them for you here tomorrow. I only have one
home computer. I'll need to write them onto paper {gasp} and then retype
them when I get to work.

I appreciate your time, help and patience.

cheers,
Matt.

Hi Again Jon!

I ran the stage 1 again last night, and it made it through the bootstrap in
about 3 hours (6:30 - 9:30 p.m. EST). I'm running a P4 1.6Ghz with 512 MB
of RDRAM on a Gigabyte motherboard. The drive is a 60MB Maxtor (probably
7200 rpm), and a DSL connection. Does that time seem about right to you?

See my new post for the "emerge system" errors I woke up to this morning.

cheers,
Matt.
