| Hi NG, Since I don't have a fast internet connection, I wonder: Is there a way to use a Gentoo-based distro like Sabayon as a repository for ebuilds? Or, is it possible to download the ebuilds in a DVD and use it as a repo? (Hey, this is amazing: developers try to optimize their sources to spare every single bit to run the program even on a 386, and then the 386 is supposed to have a T1 connection to get the package) Thanks, pedlo |

The ebuilds you can download as a single file, around 34000KB nowadays, and it's updated daily ftp://trumpetti.atm.tut.fi/gentoo/sn...latest.tar.bz2 > (Hey, this is amazing: developers try to optimize their sources to spare > every single bit to run the program even on a 386, and then the 386 is > supposed to have a T1 connection to get the package) If you think there is all too much downloading with Gentoo, then you may have picked the wrong distro, you should in that case gone with one providing you with binary packages instead of a meta-distro. //Aho |

Since I'm just a Linux amateur and a Suse user looking out of the fence. Suse has always been the best distro for my situation, plenty of interesting programs and useful games to keep the kids busy.. all in a dvd or a few cd's to downloads at my friends' place. Just for the talk, Fedora core 6 has a horrible packaging system that doesn't accept non-web repos, Ubuntu ships with just a cd and you need to spend a lot of time to browse repos. However, thanks for caring. pedlo |

Looking at an example of yum.conf, it seems to be possible to use a local repository, all you would need to do, is to setup your "local" and comment out all remotes. Then you could just download and burn a DVD at a friends of yours and pop-in and mount your fresh DVD and install/update what you want. IMHO Fedora isn't anywhere near as good as RedHat7.3 was (the last good RedHat release). //Aho |

| For free? well, that would be great. Actually I don't think shipping to Italy->Venice would be absolutely free. And honestly I don't even believe in people that says "for free" ;-) "Jerry McBride" <mcbrides9@comcast.net> ha scritto nel messaggio news:fbvj44xg9f.ln2@supertux.my.domain... > J.O.
