| I upgraded to kernel 2.6 and have removed the ide-scsi module because I have heard that the new kenrel doesn't need it. I can burn cd's with cdrecord, but burning dvd's with dvdrecord doesn't work? Is anyone burning dvd's under 2.6? Do I really need ide-scsi after all? |

Many of the dvd burning software uses old and hacked versions of cdrecord (ie versions which may well not be able to use the atapi interface.) |

As long as you handle CD's, vereything is ok, but when it comes to DVD's it sudenly stucks... Are you using cdrecord_prodvd? I'm just able to use it with idescsi (running 2.6 on AMD64), according to the author i've a broken kernel, which prevents me from using atapi. Not sure what is where broken, but it works quite well using idesci... Jan |

Yes, I'm using dvdrecord which is part of dvdrtools I think. And yes it's a hacked version of cdrecord. This is very likely my problem. |

That's my non-linux-newsgroup tagline which I usually edit out on linux groups, but I forgot. My humble apologies. |

OK, forgiven :-) Concerning cdrecord.ProDVD - it's closed source from the author of cdrecord, which is distributed freely. You will need a license key, but it is also freely available (for private use i guess). You will get it from ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/ProDVD. Also you may look in app-cdr/xcdroast, depending on your USE flags it will also use (a not that current) version of cdrecord.ProDVD HTH, Jan |

Closed source. YOu buy it from him. |
