Hi
when emerging transcode it stops when linking pf6_decore. It searches
for file '/var/tmp/portage/expat-1.95.8/image//usr/lib/libexpat.la'
(characters ' and // i rewriten from screen to)but it dont fides it and
complains that it is not valid library(dont exist => has bad structure).
Directory ...expat-1.95.8/ have only empty 'temp' dir.
My idea was to :
ebuild ...expat unpack
but ...(it goves the source only)

the file /usr/lib/libexpat.la exist
And my idea is that there are glued 2 paths (brgiht idea indead).
I have no idea how it could happen. I did not made any ( as far i
remember) commands that r opposed to "Gentoo Way".


I don't know where is error log file and
emerge transcode > file
don't pass errors to file, so i had to type error message like above.

Why do you bother with transcode ? mencoder is way quicker (50-100fps
instead of 15fps on my Athlon XP3000)
mencoder is a mplayer tool

First you say it doesn't exist, now it exists but has a bad structure.
Why don't you copy & paste the error message?

Don't use ebuild, use emerge. Read the Gentoo Handbook.

Before you get more bright ideas, learn how to spell. You're not
making any sense.

Try using a dictionary, it helps. At least use a spell checker.

/var/tmp/portage/expat-1.95.8/ directory was empty but ebuild did not
filled it with image//usr/lib/libexpat.la
I had reemerged expat too. Just in cace it did not emerged right.

Anyway i ment:
1 path : /var/tmp/portage/expat-1.95.8/image/
2 path : /usr/lib/libexpat.la
glued both paths : /var.../image//usr/...

Copy & paste succes! ( but under X )

So i'll look at mencoder closer.
I found page explaining the making of dvd with transcode. (avi ->
m2v+ac3+menu -> dvd)

As I said: don't use ebuild. If you can't follow advice, what are you
doing here?

Im am missunderstood again :-(
What i did :
1. emerge transcode ( and got error )
2. emerge expat ( maby it will help ? but it did not )
3. ebuild ...expat unpack ( for a reason i mentioned, but i see it was
rather stupid )

for now transcode-0.6.10 has the same error.
with emerged expat-1.95.7 (and unemerged 1.95.8)error is the same ! (
path in error message is ...expat-1.95.8 )
Why does it complain about /var...expat/ while emerging transcode. What
it is looking there for? Should it be more concerned for
/var..transcode/ ?

Others ebuilds are emerging ( just the new one that emerge sync gives)

In bugzilla i did not foud anything helpful. Google found similar error
messages but witch kde, solved by reemerging qt and some others ebuilds;
but i don't think it would help here.

Thanx anyway. I don't expect to have answer (bit borred with this).But i
will be happy to have some solving answers to that troubble.

Try running revdep-rebuild.

You will have to hunt a little bit to find info on mencoder. I have never
found a good web site on it, only separate bits. But I'm impressed by
mencoder. Once you understand how it works, it is very efficient. I use it
to compress dvd into mpeg4 avi files.
