Default gcc pentium4 bug

Hi,

When I installed a new version of Portage, I noticed the pentium4 flag is
not used anymore in make.conf. Now I wondered if I had to reinstall everything

I tried a test (which was mentioned in the Gentoo weekly newsletter), and
my machine passed. The test can be found here:

http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.gentoo.user/44339

Does this mean everything is ok? Or only my python?

My CFLAGS were:

CFLAGS="-O3 -march=pentium4 -funroll-loops -fprefetch-loop-arrays -pipe"

My gcc version is:

gcc version 3.2.3 20030422 (Gentoo Linux 1.4 3.2.3-r1, propolice)

Thanks in advance!

You shouldn't have to.

From what I read, your setup *should* be fine. Unless you're having weird
errors or anything I wouldn't really worry about it. Also, the thread
mentioned in link you gave, most of the users with a probably were using GCC
3.2.2; the last version before this new one (3.3.1) was 3.2.3. I didn't read
the thread through though but it looked to be pretty old (March 2003). So like
I said -- you should be fine.

Well, if you do an emerge sync you'll notice there's a new version.

gcc version 3.3.1 20030904 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.1-r1, propolice)

Working good so far for me.
