There will be an official treasurer appointed by the board in the near future. Formerly, everything went to Daniel Robbins, who has now left the project. I'm not entirely sure why this is a major emotional issue for you; why would you change distributions because you are unable to mail money to somebody? I'm no longer authorized. [snip] Linux and most of the stuff that comes with it is distributed under the GPL. Anyone is entitled to sell GPL code for whatever the market will bear (provided they comply with the conditions - read the GPL). Your retailer might have stopped providing convenient updates, but Mandrake will still be providing security updates for 9.1 for a few more months. Their site is down at the moment, but have a look here; http://www.mandrakesecure.net/en/productlifetime.php -- Sig goes here... Peter D. |

Yet I haven't been able to get updates on anything for some time now for my Mandrake and I'm starting to like the Gentoo way of doing things. I think I'll learn more about Linux foing this as well. -- Fred (Remove FFFf from my email address to reply, if by email). |

Also have a look at http://www.mandrakesecure.net/en/adv...es.php?dis=9.1 The last relevant update was April 29. I am using Mandrake 9.1 myself and am just dipping my toe in the water with Gentoo. -- Sig goes here... Peter D. |

I did actually get a small update to install and then the next one ran into errors, which I'm not interested in investigating. I'd just like to get k3b running again so I can backup the old system before I wipe the disk. -- Fred (Remove FFFf from my email address to reply, if by email). |

If you think I'm being harsh: you're full of stupid assumptions you didn't bother to check before deciding to dump Gentoo - without ever having tried it!
