| Hi all I'm getting crazy with a problem I don't know the answer. I hope you can help me. Recently I installed Samba to share a directory on my Gentoo 2005.0. Everything works fine and I can access this directory with every Win client (Win 9x, 2k, etc.). Now, I need to do the reverse, I mean, from my linux box I need to access the directories shared on a Win2k system. When I type the command "smbclient -L clientname" I get the error "nt_status_access_denied" and nothing happens. I'm sure the directories on Windows are correctly shared because I can access them with a Fedora 3 distro. I tried to search on Internet for some documentation but I only get 'how to do it' and not 'what I need to do it'. In fact, on Gentoo I made a manual installation and I'm not sure if I compiled the kernel with everything I need to accomplish this task (if the kernel has something to do with it) or if I have to install additional software I'm not aware of (a smb client, for instance). Just consider I'm new to this. Does any of you know what I'm missing or where should I start ? Thanks a lot, Marco |

In the kernel config, under "file systems" - "network file systems", look at "SMB file system support" and "CIFS support". |

Try for example make new user on windows machine of the same login and passwd as in your gentoo box or try to use user Guest or something when trying to access windows shares... -- Pozdrawiam, Marek "the.bartez" Zawadzki |
