| Hello, Moving from rh9 to another distro and i'd like to try gentoo. The box i've got doesn't have a bootable CD-drive, so i'm wondering if there's a floppy option that will load the installer or a way to boot off say an external drive? Thanks. Dave. |

IIRC floppy images are on the LiveCD. Sybren -- The problem with the world is stupidity. Not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself? |

If you already have RH9 on it, you could also try to install Gentoo from within it. I installed my two Gentoo boxes through RH7.2 and Knoppix, respectively. Of course the RH "upgrade" was done onto new hard disks. It might be a bit more tricky if you plan on keeping the same disks ... -- PeKaJe Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do. |

You seem to have misunderstood what he said: You can install Gentoo from _within_ RH, or any other running distro. This will not have anything to do with the running distro after it's installed - you can scrap everything except the Gentoo bits. > Is there a > method i could boot off of say a floppy and get network access? If you have network access you can install direct from the Internet - you'd only need the minimum ISO to install. -- Jeroen Geilman Analog bits courtesy of adaptr. |
