| I was just installing my first Gentoo setup and I must say: I love it!!! However, when I went to fine tune my system I found some things not at the place where I expected them. For example all the GNOME binaries were installed in /usr/bin instead of /opt/gnome/bin or /usr/gnome/bin . Also all the GNOME file heirachy went directly under /usr, and it's messing up the sorting I normally have. On the other hand, KDE was installed completely under /usr/kde-1.3 so I think, that there must exist an option somwhere in the portage system where I can select the installation directory. Any hints on this? Wolfgang |

You could edit the ebuild to make things install wherever you like. /usr/portage/<whatever type of app you're installing>/<appname> and the ebuild is inside, if you already didn't know this. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/TpHh8H2pa7UxQyIRAm1IAJ9hpBTPRcjvpjrNqdn72RXhng6x/QCbBqCo S0aHYWdJA0ChNeJHfRYhWho= =NgW5 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- -.surtin.- | Against stupidity the very gods Themselves -o) | contend in vain. -- Friedrich von /\ | Schiller, "The Maid of Orleans", III, 6 _\_v | surtin.com | |
