| Hi, The gentoo system in question is Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 (from the release info in /etc) I can't remember if I did this particular install after 1.4 availabilty? are these the same release numbers? I noted 'emerge -p gcc' shows 2.95 as the current and available while portage shows all the way up to 3.0.3 available. In other words my gcc is stuck at gcc-2.95.3-r8 Does this make sense or does it sound like I have caused this in the past by injecting a stub or some such? Thanks for any help or info. -- Reply to innkeepATncDOTrrDOTcom to email questions. |

Not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself? |

| possibly there are certain hardware sets where gcc can't progress past 2.95? This is a pentiumPRO 200 system compiled as i686. I'm guessing though. -Walt Sybren Stuvel <sybrenUSE@yourthirdtower.imagination.com> wrote: > PenguinsAnonymous@NotaChance.com enlightened us with: >> The gentoo system in question is Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 >> (from the release info in /etc) > Ok, so is mine. >> I noted 'emerge -p gcc' shows 2.95 as the current and available > Don't tell us how you interpret things. | I see potential for answers in Gentoo 1.4 Upgrade Guide under installing GCC 3 and using gcc-config for multiple compiler versions. I'm still a little confused as to whether this is a true 1.4 system? /etc/gentoo-release contains Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 Is that what this means? So I can install the most stable gcc as a second compiler and get the libraries I need Thanks. -Walt PenguinsAnonymous@notachance.com wrote: > Hi, > The gentoo system in question is > Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 > (from the release info in /etc) > I can't remember if I did this particular install after 1.4 availabilty? > are these the same release numbers? > I noted 'emerge -p gcc' shows 2.95 as the current and available > while portage shows all the way up to 3.0.3 available. > In other words my gcc is stuck at > gcc-2.95.3-r8 > Does this make sense or does it sound like I have caused this in the > past by injecting a stub or some such? > Thanks for any help or info. > -- > Reply to innkeepATncDOTrrDOTcom to email questions. -- Reply to innkeepATncDOTrrDOTcom to email questions. |
