| I have just installed from the 2004.1 live CD. I have a KT600-A motherboard with an Athlon-XP 2500. I was able to complete the install with the 2.4.25 kernel. I cannot get the onboard NIC to work. I have emerged nforce-net with no errors. Whenever I modprobe nvnet I get a 'no such device' error. What can I do? Someone on IRC suggested installing the 2.6 kernel because it has nforce support built in. Is it possible for me to install this kernel with my current system or do I need to restart the installation from scratch? If I need to do a complete re-install then how do I specifiy the 2.6 kernel? |

You should have a look at the kernel howto.. The 2.6 build in nforce driver (forcedeth) works well with my motherboaed (nforce1 based) -- Pierre AUSSAGUEL ACHROME photographies : http://achrome.fr.vu/ "Linux, cause rebooting is for adding new hardware" |

The module is right - you don't have nforce integrated LAN. What you've got is the VIA KT600 chipset (you don't tell what make or model :P) and this uses a VIA network interface. http://www.via.com.tw/en/k7-series/kt600.jsp HTH, -- Ben M. I checked the mobo manual and the onboard LAN is controlled by a VT6103. Any clues how I get that working? |
