| Hello all, My HP psc 1210 all-in-one inkjet printer has developed a curious problem: when performing a color print it prints black as red. The result is that all my prints are very reddish :-( If I perform a black and white print the color black (and the gray scales) are printed normally. I am using (Gentoo) Linux with cups and hplip. Also installed are foomatic and fax4cups. An overview of the installed Gentoo packages is given below: [I--] [ Â*] net-print/cups-1.2.6 (0) [I--] [ Â*] net-print/fax4cups-1.24 (0) [I--] [ Â*] net-print/hplip-0.9.7-r3 (0) [I--] [ Â*] net-print/foomatic-db-20060720 (0) [I--] [ Â*] net-print/foomatic-db-engine-3.0.20060720 (0) [I--] [ Â*] net-print/foomatic-db-ppds-20060720 (0) [I--] [ Â*] net-print/foomatic-filters-3.0.20060720 (0) [I--] [ Â*] net-print/foomatic-filters-ppds-20060720 (0) The backend hplip program (/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp) output: direct hp:/usb/psc_1200_series?serial=HU33IBP27R5H "HP psc_1200_series" "hp:/usb/psc_1200_series?serial=HU33IBP27R5H" And the /proc/version of my Linux configuration: Linux version 2.6.18-gentoo-r2 (root@vapulo) (gcc version 4.1.1 (Gentoo 4.1.1)) #1 SMP Mon Nov 13 23:59:54 CET 2006 Any ideas anyone? I have removed and reinstalled all the above packages (except fax4cups, which I believe is unrelated to printer issues). Also I have unconfigured and reconfigured my printers under cups (using the localhost:631 web browser interface, but with no success... If I run Microsoft XP under VMWare Player - which accesses the printer directly - then black is printed as black, so the problem is very likely to be Linux configuration related. I have no idea where the problem lies... |

[I--] [ ~] net-print/hplip-1.6.10 (0) [I--] [ ~] app-text/ghostscript-esp-8.15.3-r1 (0) Another note: as I understand my printer (HP psc 1210 all-in-one) requires KRGB support (to print black in color mode it mixed ink from the color cartridge), which should be in the hplip and ghostscript-esp packages I have now installed? My printer worked fine under SuSe Linux 9.3 I was using earlier, so it should be possible :-) |

This is normally set to 'Controlled by Printout Mode', which with my psc 1210 all-in-one printer results in the reddish prints. If I set the above option to e.g. '300 dpi, Draft, Color, Black + Color Cartr.' the printer prints normally. :-) > > If I perform a black and white print the color black (and the gray scales) > are printed normally. > > I am using (Gentoo) Linux with cups and hplip. It's only a partial solution: I now have perfect black and white on my prints, but the grays are still reddish :-( Any thoughts anyone? I suspect the problem is the KRGB support that is required for my HP psc 1210 all-in-one printer and that is somehow broken. But that is just my theory... |

Does a color copy give > correct colors? HAve you tried running an internal self test? Thanks! I rechecked the cartridge and found that the first self test went okay, but the second already had a partial cyan block printed out and when I tried a third the cyan block was completely gone. Leaving the printer for a while and then retrying the self test produced a normal block of cyan. I have returned the somehow defect cartridge - it was a refilled one - and got a new one. All is okay now :-) Having just switched OS (from SuSe to Gentoo) and never having encountered a bad cartridge I gues I haved looked too much from the driver and OS perspective... > Regards, > Bob Headrick, MS MVP Printing/Imaging |
