| Hi.., I'am the local LUG organization part. We (as linux.opole.pl) wont to make install party using gentoo. Have you got any ideas how to do this? I was thinking that we can use distcc to compile gentoo on two systems (amd and intel) using computer that people will bring. This is not a good idea :-( Any help..? Take care! -- # Damian *dEiMoS* Kołkowski # http://kolkowski.no-ip.org/ # |

I would strongly recommend going with GRP installs for an installfast. -- Jon Portnoy avenj/irc.freenode.net, irc.oftc.net |

Take care! > I have several ideas Make the portage dir available via NFS. Pro: You don't have to download the same packages over and over again. Con: Once they leave the packages will not longer available to them, even the ones they have already installed. Set the new systems to get their portage from your local server. Pro: They could download as many packages as they want using 'emerge -f xxxx' and compile them later. Con: Anything they forget they have to download themselves. Get each system to run a script that would rsync the entire portage dir from a central server to the local system. Pro: They have all the packages from the server Con: Can take up *ALOT* of space for packages they don't need/want. Setup your server to allow all three. Pro: People can be informed of the pros and cons of each then have the choice. Con: Ummmmmm... let me think..... hmmmm..... Oh I know, you have to have the knowledge on how to do each. -- Regards, Harry Phillips |
