Default Installing gentoo of a Sony Vaio 505

I have a sony cd rom attached via a pcmcia card, that I can boot Gentoo
live cd. It then stops, saying it can't mount it, and I get kicked back to a
fairly limited screen. Is there a way to install Gentoo and by-pass this
limitation?

Did you put dopcmcia into the boot options? If not, gentoo won't
activate pcmcia support.
