Default installing MySQL 4.1.x

hi

I want to install MySQL 4.1.x, but all those packages are still "masked" ...
I have no idea how to install masked packages. I read some page on
gentoo.org about it, but still couldn't figure it out. Can anyone put a list
of commands here, which i can execute?

Thanks a lot!
Bart

man portage

And what good will that do? Typing commands you don't understand is
very dangerous and also rather stupid.

All the information you need is on the Gentoo website and in the man pages.
The reason I'm telling you this rather than how to do what you ask is
because unless you understand exactly what you're doing it could lead to
problems later[0]. Giving you instructions won't give you that
understanding and going into too much depth is beyond the scope of a Usenet
post when the Gentoo docs can give you a better understanding. I would only
be duplicating that documentation which is a waste of my time.

[0] MySQL 4.1 is flagged as testing/hard masked. You need to do some
research to find out why that is and what possible issues you might
encounter. It could be that it's just new and hasn't been tested enough but
there could be other, more serious reasons. Why won't the current stable
version (4.0.22-r2) do?

Sybren - I love your responses! They are clear and simple (sometimes to
honest) :-)
