| <snip> > jesus christ, this group here is really weird ;( </snip> In say, 3 out of 4 times, I get the same experience. Some of the people in here, are arrogant towards others needing help. Instead of just answering questions - even with another question - they'd rather get involved in a looong thread, telling you how to post to their liking. /Stig |

You *really* need to toughen up, if this scares you ... As far as I can see, you've been met with great tolerance and patience in here ... No, what really scares people off is the likes of P.T. Breuer in alt.os.linux. > the activity in this group is almost *zero* - guess why! Most Gentoo users use the forums and/or IRC, where replies are faster? Gentoo is still relatively minor, compared to the other Linux distros? This group only handles specific Gentoo questions, while the other groups take generic Linux problems? > btw: i have no problems in other groups, so i dont think its me. Ah, but I think it was in fact you. At least to some degree. I think I've previously explained to you why you got the kinds of responses you got. > anyway: did you have success to subscribe to the mailinglist > (users-gentoo)? if so, how? also the forum does not seem to work. i > gave up after waiting 5 minutes to acess forums.gentoo.org forums.gentoo.org unfortunately suffers under the rising popularity of Gentoo ... The servers are simply too under-powered for peak traffic hours. For more immediate help, go to #gentoo on irc.freenode.net. There are usually 7-800 people in there, many of which are Gentoo devs. -- PeKaJe There is a new service pack that fixes all of IIS's problems permanently. Go here to download it: http://www.apache.org |

My forumsubscription worked fine. Perhaps try again? Regards, Stig |

The forums are actually quite fast outside the peak hours, and the answers you get there are typically more elaborate since more Gentoo users hang out in the forums than on Usenet. As for IRC ... Well, nobody can argue that it's slow ... If there *is* a solution to your problem, someone will usually tell you within a few seconds to a minute. If it's really trivial, you risk 5-6 identical responses within 5 seconds ... Always funny to watch :-) -- PeKaJe BOFH Excuse #270: Someone has messed up the kernel pointers |
