| Hi, I' m gentoo newbie and just want to install it with less steps as possible. A friend had downloaded and made for me amd-xp gentoo optimizaded cd (1 e 2) for my system, and I made boot, gentoo, and swap partitions. On faq I have seen somethings about +GRP instalation but I'm confused. Can any of you give me the right way? Thanks in advince for any help Evaristo |

I propose you get the installation instructions [1] and look for a (stage3) live cd [2]. It's easier than you think on the cd mentioned under [2]), which are precompiled for you, but you need to set exactly the same USE flags as the packager did (I have seen this problem on a friend's PC). Maybe you're better off doing all from source.. this doesn't hurt, since you have an athlon xp ;D [1] http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86-install.xml [2] http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions /gentoo/releases/x86/1.4/livecd/athlon-xp/ Greets & HTH Dave -- Dave "tPassive" Vogt| ruby -e "n=gets.to_i;a=(2..n).to_a;a.each{ Linux user #225040| |x|puts x;(x*2).step(n,x){|j|a.delete j}}" ____________________|_____________________________ | PGP Key: http://control-alt-del.ch/public_key.asc \____________/ |

Get all needed files from another source and copy them to /usr/portage/distfiles. Next try to download and burn either to cd or a spare hd the files you want to install. Once you've got all of them (approx 9gigs for everything) then you just point things to the cd/hd where your files are located and begin building what you need. I would only download the tree for you hardware. EG: x86 for intel pc's or sparc if using a Sun Sparc. Should keep things a bit smaller and provides you with all the files needed for doing a stage 1 build if you've got the room. Registered Linux User # 286635 |
