I personally prefer the signal quality of ATI-based cards to NVidia any day, but my experiences with Linux drivers for ATI is so so. From what I understand the general concensus is also that NVidia is way ahead of ATI when it comes to Linux support. So if this is already your preference I'd say you should go for it. Then of course there is always Matrox, unless 3D performance is a big issue. |

I have a TNT-2 and a GF-ti-4600 both running Linux. I have zero problems and updates are timely and easy. I have ZERO reason to consider anythign else. (especially an ATI that doesn't support Linux anywhere close to as well as nVidia does). |

| Just make sure you read the nvidia linux forum from nvnews - some of the newer nvidia cards (5700U, 5950U, etc.) aren't fully supported yet (3D). If you need a Video In, I'd suggest you check with GF owners of such cards, because with ATI it is impossible for the time being to use that with 3D support and you ahve to unload ATI fglrx and load Gatos radeon modules to get it working and you loose the speed drastically i.e. with fglrx I get 2090 fps and video out working and with gatos no video out and 300 fps [7 times slower!!!] The only advantage I see compared to GF4 is the I get video out also without X, which I think is not possible with GF. I wonder if GF with Video IN works properly, anyone uses such? -- pozdrawiam PiotrAF [¿ó³todziób] icq#19392046 gadu-gadu#66915 |
