Has anyone used VMWare to successfully create a virtual machine with
Gentoo 2005.1? If so, please respond with any special considerations
you discovered in your install.

Either just install:
emerge vmware-workstation
or download and install the program from vmware.com

However in the last case, you need to create rc0.d .. rc6.d in /etc/init.d
and manualy move og symlink the new files into /etc/runlevels/default
and /etc/runlevels/boot.
