Debian does this exact thing very well -- every program puts itself into the "debian menu" which then appears in EVERY windowmanager that Debian supports. Gnome and KDE have the Debian menu in addition to the Gnome/KDE specific menu hierarchy, while TWM and WindowMaker replace their menus entirely with the Debian menu. This is a very good and intelligent system, and there is already an infrastructure for maintaining this (update-menus). I believe, also, that the menu hierarchy is organized the same as the package hierarchy. A cool system worth examining. |
