Default Save gnome-panel config

Ever since I upgraded GNOME to 2.14.2 a few weeks ago the panel acts
strangely on startup (it's somehow cramped into 50x25px in the lower
left corner). After I did a "killall gnome-panel" in a terminal it
always starts up again with the right configuration and all applets at
the correct position.
So the question is, how do I get it to save that config so that I don't
have to kill it every time?
Peter.
