| Has anyone experiences in streaming video using ebuilds provided by gentoo? I started some research today and ended in the possibility to stream videos over the net using vlc (on both sides). But now i want to be able to use any browser (without xswallow and even on the wrong OS) to read the Stream, which seems not possible using vlc!? Any comments here? The stream is/should be generated by a webcam. Thx, Jan PS: I experienced a delay of about 2 sec using vlc, is this common? |

I've used camserv on Debian, but, although it is available for Gentoo, I have not gotten around to installing it and using it. It worked fine for streaming NTSC input video to another Debian system. emerge search camserv Searching... [ Results for search key : camserv ] [ Applications found : 1 ] * media-video/camserv James |

I was quite some time ago, and unfortunately, I have used that harddrive for something else. I mentioned camserv only as an alternative to camstream. Sorry, I cannot help your more, but, as soon as I get my Gentoo system up, I'll be trying to get video (mpeg4) streaming between system working. So, We'll be working on the same problems. My experience with video over ethernet, between systems, is it involves quite a bit of hacking, regardless of the package you choose. Nothing works seemlessly. James |
