| Hello -- I've searched and search to find help with my problem, but can't seem to find an answer. I'm new to both Linux and Gentoo, so please look past the n00bness if this is a simple question. I don't know what I did, but when I log in now and when Gnome is starting, I see that gDesklets is starting -- but it never shows up. It use to start, but not any more. If I try clicking Applications >> Accessories >> gdesklets -- "Starting gDesklets..." appears in the Window List panel, but then just disappears and gDesklets isn't on my desktop. From a shell prompt, if I su, gDesklets will start by typing in gdesklets -- but only if I'm using root privileges. What am I doing wrong? Also, is there a group I can add myself to, in order to modify items in the /usr/share folders? Thanks for any help. -- Brian http://68.1.17.8/p0nykiller/email.htm |

| Brian, To use gdesklets, you have to have a desklet running, so if you download some desklet displays (which you can get at http://gdesklets.gnomedesktop.org ) to start then originally all you have to do is in the terminal goto the directory where you saved your desklet displays then type " gdesklets displayname.display " and then when you move the cursor around you will be able to place the display. From then on you can run any and all displays that are currently loaded by just typing "gdesklets" in the terminal. I haven't used gdesklets in awhile, so if anyone has any corrections for what I just said. Please do correct. Good luck with it, Mike Brian wrote > Hello -- I've searched and search to find help with my problem, but > can't seem to find an answer. | The problem is getting the desklet running. When I first installed everything it worked, then it suddenly quit starting when I logged in to my account (Gnome). I can start it from the root account, but not my normal user account.
