Reminds me of how my USB disk acted when my graphics card came unseated. The point being, it's possible you have a hardware issue somewhere. It may not even be obvious. -- PeKaJe Linux has a history of standing on the shoulders of giants, while Microsoft has a history of trying to break giants' legs. The latter is quite less efficient. |

There are some issues with USB-IDE bridge chips. I have two USB external cases. One works perfectly both ways and one reads perfectly, but writes with errors. Not to mention, under Windoze they both work OK, but this is probably a matter of adopting hardware to non-standard-conformant drivers of Win... Go and check http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/index.php , which is a fine Linux-USB compatibility database. I shop USB devices with this list (since the faulty USB case) and it never let me down. Just open the case and enter bridge's chip ID into the DB. If someone found any quirks, there might be a solution there. Hope it helps, -- Pawel Kraszewski |
