If you look at the bugzilla database, you'll find that parts of that KDE release are still likely to fail during compile. It appears to be, among other things, a parallel make problem, and since significant numbers of Gentoo users use parallel makes, the package is masked. At least until this is fixed. -- PeKaJe Williams and Holland's Law: If enough data is collected, anything may be proven by statistical methods. |

FWIW, it did compile OK here with a -j5 make option. Being in ~ARCH does not mean KDE is considered unstable, only its ebuild is. Given the size of the package, it is not a surprise that the ebuild needs a lot a testing and feedback before it can be marked stable. Again, ~ARCH does not mean unstable software, it means the ebuild hasn't been thoroughly tested yet. Hth |

Yes, but when I try ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -up kde it tells a lot of other packages would be emerged too. Are those packages all in ~x86? Do I risc an unstable system that way? On my other box I have SuSE9.1, updated to KDE 3.2.2. I have no problem with the stability of KDE. Eggert |

So whilst KDE 3.2.2 has been out for a month, still it's under testing (not neccessarily unstable) to see if issues crop up (compilation or runtime). After all, we don't want several thousand KDE users to automatically upgrade only to run all sorts of problems, let's leave that to the ~x86 users. :P -- Ben M. |

KDE 3.2.2 popped up today when I ran emerge to update my system. I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned already. -- Andy. |
