| hi to all just trying to use wifi rtl8180 pcmcia card on my linux box... i'm constrained in using kernel 2.4.21 which results the only "stable" for me, with driver released by realtek (even if i think that there is some buggy relocations when linking open_part.o and priv_part.o) so once i've succeeded making this stuff usable, noticed that i have to pay a lot of attention when try to reboot/halt or just logout from kde. the problem resides somewhere inside rtl8180_24x.o driver: before i logout from kde (reboot and halt imply that) have to be sure of making first of all these steps: (1) ifconfig wlan0 down (2) dhcpcd -k wlan0 (3) iwpriv wlan0 disable (4) rmmod rtl8180_24x where steps (1),(3)&(4) are fundamental and should be executed only in this order, otherwise we'll fall in kernel panic. ok, nevermind i did some scripts but sometimes they still tend to fail and so the systems just freezes and i have to press a power button till the laptop shuts down. when this happens and i boot up newely the system - surprisingly i see that i've lost a lot of my kde settings (not all, and this does not happen all the time = randomize therefore) such as sound notifications, icon sizes, window behaviours and so on... but the most annoying thing is that i lose sometimes my *kdewallet passwords*!!! and so kmail, knode, kopete... any application that stores in kdewallet passwords! i'm not sure - but this seems to sound as a high risk stuff, correct me. so maybe a question is: how can i backup my settings? just copying directory would help me? -- remove mailto__ on replying |
