| Hey, Thanks for the tips about Gentoo on newer unsupported HW! I booted with Ubuntu and then chrooted and stuff just worked! But I was kinda stupid enough to take over the Ubuntu kernel config where ext3 was compiled as a module so the root partition could not be mounted. This leaves me with one thing, why could it boot and load the same kernel from /boot that was also ext3, although the filesystem support was compiled in a module? I would have replied to the tread in question but it had already been deleted from Thunderbird Wimmy |

| So anyway, it was like, 12:26 CET Feb 23 2007, you know? Oh, and, yeah, Wim Cossement was all like, "Dude, > This leaves me with one thing, why could it boot and load the same > kernel from /boot that was also ext3, although the filesystem > support was compiled in a module? If you think about it, the kernel isn't involved in loading itself. Whether or not the kernel can be loaded depends entirely on the capabilities of the boot loader. Once it is, it needs to be able to read the root file system by itself (not actually /boot tho). -- Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana.
