| Hi, I keep on getting the same error when trying to emerge xfree-4.3.0-r3... A post on forums.gentoo.org didn't help out (other were having the same problem as I do), maybe you can help me (and them) out... | Forgive my "top post" but... What optimizations are you using in /etc/make.conf? Perhaps you're being to aggressive wiht your settings? Have a look at revdep-rebuild, perhaps you are missing something in your system or unmerged something important. | These are my settings: CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=i686 -O3 -pipe" CXXFLAGS="-march=i686 -O3 -pipe" I've tried it with very basic settings as well, but without luck... BTW, I can recall unmerging xft, because of a conflict with xfree-4.3.0-r2 some time ago... But when I look at which packages should be dependent of that with quickpkg, none are found. I hope someone will give me the solution, this is blocking my emerge for a month now tia, eels "Jerry McBride" <mcbrides9@comcast.net> schreef in bericht news:l2b371xk81.ln2@spinner.my.domain... > > Forgive my "top post" but... > > What optimizations are you using in /etc/make.conf? Maybe I've just never paid enough attention but I don't think I've seen that before. My /etc/make.conf has this line: CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}" which seems like it should give the same result as what you use, but I would try using it and see if it makes any difference. Those extra compiler flags are coming from somewhere and I'm not sure where. When you use -O2 instead of -O3 does the error message also change? That might give a clue where the extra flags are coming from. |

WHat is happening is... each ebuild has the ability of "filtering out" undesireable compiler flags. In your example above, emerge filtered out 3 unwanted options... What they were, only you know for sure. | I did have a look at revdep-rebuild now as well. Only thing it wanted to do was emerge my blackdown-jdk instead of the one from sun I'm using. However I did unmerge xft a while ago. But when I use quickpg (with a lot of options I read from the gentoo forums), there are no packages dependent on xft, so it shouldn't harm anything unmerging it. Apart from that, it was confilicting with xfree-4.3.0-r2, so I had to. Other ideas to solve my problem ? | Problem seemed to be my gcc. I was still sticking with the good old 2.95.3 .... But since I couldn't update from the beginning of October, I needed to try /something/ to get my system up2date, so I decided to try the big step to upgrade to gcc 3.2.3 ... Xfree has now compiled succesfully. I hope the rest of my packages will also, still about 60 to go :-S "PiotrAF" <piotraf@nospam.poczta.onet.pl> schreef in bericht news > On Fri, 07 Nov 2003 15:13:34 -0800, Steven Klass wrote: > > > I too am seeing the same errors.. > > > > I noticed the multiple O3 statements and tried to slim it down - no luck. > > > AFAIK (man gcc) you can even have -O0 -O2 -O3 -Os an dnot only a multiple > same flag and gcc considers only the last.
