| After an upgrade xmms is now broken on my gentoo amd64 system. If I try to play an mp3 the output now sounds choppy, like the Russian radar that used to jam 40 meters short wave. Xine and Realplayer still work fine though. I think ogg123 is also broken, but silent. I'm using alsa and kde. Arts still segfaults, like it always did. Any ideas....? |

What is the version you are having a problem with? Specifically. I currently am running the following: media-sound/xmms-1.2.10-r15 ogg123 from vorbis-tools 1.0.1 You might try switching audio plugin for the output source. I use alsa for just about everything with no problems (not arts). I've also used jack since that allows me to use the realtime hooks into the kernel. However, that has been flaky with the newest upgrades. Are you using additional plugins that you may need to upgrade or disable? Also, I had better luck by using the alsa-driver package rather than compile in alsa or oss for sound in the kernel. Here is a guide on doing that: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml FYI: This is where to change the audio i/o: OPTIONS > PREFERENCES > Audio I/O Plugins > [output plugin] |
