| Hi All, I am planning to setup [ for testing purpose ] RAC on my desktop on normal/default segate harddrive of 40 gb. I am using RHEL 3.0. I want to know o Is it possible to install RAC on my desktop machine using OCFC ? o If yes, Can we up the both instance on same time. Thanks, Js |

I think you will need a second hard drive. Oracle also has info on how to do this using vmware. Google is your friend. |

I would suggest, instead, you implement ASM. You can download a paper on how to do this at www.psoug.org (see ASM White Paper). What do you mean by "up the both instance"? -- Daniel A. | Thanks to all for prompt reply. DA Morgan -- Yes, I meant OCFS. Up both the instance -- I heard from some one that we can not start both instance at same time. For that we need shared storage like [SAN,EMC] or on single node where can have normal disk which does not support to write on single OS block by two processes. What is diff. in OCFS or ASM. -- Can you pls. suggest me from where I should start step by step |

OCFS is a file system. ASM is, in a sense, managed raw devices though ASM is much much more than just that. I'd suggest you read up on ASM at http://tahiti.oracle.com. -- Daniel A.
