| All, I would love to hear opinions and experiences from current User's of Aivant's DBShadow product to create and manage Oracle standby databases. Use of this product in a large SAP environment would be a plus. Suggestions for alternative products is also greatly appreciated. Thank you. Charles |

| Charles, we've been using DBShadow for almost three years now (non-SAP, 300GB, 18.000 users). The were few situations (media failures and logical corruptions) in which DBShadow helped us to avoid a full database restore. Also in common planned change situation (appl. release upgrade) DBShadow has proven to be a valuable fall-back strategy. Compared to other products like Oracles Dataguard to me DBShadow seems to be much more simplier to setup, maintain and operate. I don't want to miss it ... They have customers in many OLTP-applications like SAP R/3 and individual software. Is a 250 Gigabyte installation large enough ? Alternativeliy is - as far as I know - only data guard from oracle. IBM has a shadow add on with its db2. But this is not really comparable, they do more "cloning" or "doubling" of transactions. I am administrator and project manager, greetings, nico. |

I use it in a SAP environment on Windows NT with an Oracle DB 8.1.7 of over 600GB. We have tested the standby environment on 3 occasions and we were able to switch to the DB-Shadow server running SAP in less than 45 minutes. We also used it in a real life situation, when our production Oracle migration did not work the first time, I restored from the DB-Shadow server in 5 hours, something that with tape restore would have taken over 20 hours. A special thank you to their team. Marc B. |
