| Hi all, We are currently not allowed to use the Diagnostics Pack/ Tuning Pack because we didn't buy their licenses. I need to monitor and tune our Oracle 10g database and would like to use OEM as an interface but collect and analyze the data using Statspack. Question: If I use OEM, I will be automatically accessing the AWR / ... objects? What should be my concerns when using OEM to avoid using the features that I am not allowed to use? Many thanks for the help! Ana |

Probably if you search this newsgroup ( can be done via google ) and include the words "AWR licensing" you will get lots of info. This topic has been chewed on several times already. Another approach also worth pursuing is to talk to your oracle sales rep. |

I'd suggest HPUXRAC's final suggestion ... talk to your sales rep. StatsPack and OEM are not integrated. -- Puget Sound Oracle Users Group |

| Thanks for your answers, but our managers are currently not considering the option of paying extra costs to buy this license. Can I use OEM without accessing the objects that I am not allowed to use (AWR, etc)? I would like to use OEM just as an interface for administration of schema objects, storage, init parameters, ... I have also searched in google for this topic and found: "There is nothing stopping anyone from accessing the views and functions. ... In reality, you may be using them without knowing it. The underlying objects, programs and views are created by default in 10g. If you access any of the following views: - The V$ACTIVE_SESSION_HISTORY dynamic performance view - All data dictionary views beginning with the prefix DBA_HIST_* along with their underlying tables. and others, you are required to purchase the optional EM packs." And this is exactly my concern: Can I use OEM and disable objects that I am not allowed to be using? Or should I stop using OEM??? Thanks for the help, Ana DA Morgan wrote: > hpuxrac wrote: > > Ana Ribeiro wrote: > >> Hi all, > >> We are currently not allowed to use the Diagnostics Pack/ Tuning Pack > >> because we didn't buy their licenses. Looking at init parameters or or schema objects will not cause you to use the extra-cost features. > "There is nothing stopping anyone from accessing the views and > functions. ... And as the quote above says, nothing is stopping you and you may cross that line. Personally, I don't like this approach from Oracle Corp. This is similar to my car manufacture putting a Turbo charger on my engine, but telling me that I did not pay for that option, so don't use it. Then they come back a year later and pull a report from my engine which shows them that I used the Turbo twice in the last year (I attempted to pass that truck on the highway...I didn't mean to use the Turbo. It just came on automatically when I pressed the gas pedal). Then my car manufacturer wants me to pay up since I used that option. By selecting the disable management pack access check boxes in EM surely. (under setup or preferences IIRC) This is setup that should be done by the dba who sets up the enterprise manager infrastructure. -- Niall Litchfield Oracle DBA http://www.orawin.info/services/ |
