Default Migrating 9 to 10g, Win2K to Linux

Our IT department intends to migrate our Apps Server to Linux Red Hat
Enterprise Version 3 from Windows 2003 and the Oracle version from
9.03 to 10g at the same time. Can anyone tell me what may be involved
in migrating our Forms and Reports from 9.03 to 10g and from Windows
to Linux. This change in OS is in test, so not impacting our existing
system, but I have not been able to find any info on the subject.

Thanks

My 2c: migrating two things in one go is begging for
trouble. Take it one at the time, let it simmer for
some time -say three months- and only when confident
the first migration was a success, take the second step.

Apart from that, I would try the 903->10g step
first, and then the OS step, as I expect more difficulties
with that (no experience in this version, but 4.5->5->6)
The OS change is fairly simple: install, recompile your
..fmb, done

Wish I was working in your IT department ;-)

Your forms and reports will have to be regenerated on the Linux server, and then
the layout of the reports will have to be checked, since the fonts on Linux are
not the same as on Windoze.

What clients will be used to access the forms?

Geert

PS. put dots between my initials to write to me directly.

Look at the installation guide. It's included with the download, and
is also available separately in the documentation link next to the
product download. http://download-west.oracle.com/docs...nstall/toc.htm

Much as I love Unix over Windows, Oracle Reports Server on Unix is a bit
nasty. If you have a lot of Oracle Reports and have either or mix of
fonts, mix of printers, mix of languages then be prepared for printer
and font alignment nastiness. This is partly because the printing model
on Unix is weak but also because Oracle try to implement their own
driver model.

I'm with Frank on this one. Migrating both at the same time is an
act of self-mutilation. If something breaks you will have no way
of knowing which of two things is the cause.

Upgrade to 10g first ... then migrate Forms and Reports.

One thing I have to ask though ... has anyone done this on a test
box? Run it against a full production dataset and load? What
happened? No patches out there yet and you're jumping in with both
feet? Gerard may be envious. I think you are asking to lose your
evenings, weekends, and sanity.
