| Hi, We are planning an oracle database upgrade from 8.1.7 to 9.2.0.6 on unix box. we would prefer if our partner could perform this offsite. Is it common to run oracle database upgrades remotely? what are the pros and cons. Appreciate your views. TIA. Romi |

| I telecommute and all of my upgrades are performed remotely. Well, there is one exception. I do have an Oracle database installed locally in my home office, but it is just a test database. I have never had a problem upgrading remotely that would not have been a problem if I were local. | Use of the Oracle Universal Installer will require an Xwindows session. This can be supported by running an xterm through an ssh tunnel. One could also run a vnc client to a vnc server running an Xwindows session on the server. This is covered in the Installation guide which along with the upgrade/migration guide, I would highly recommend that you read. -bdbafh |
