| I was running oracle 8i (personal addition) on my home win98 computer I upgraded my computer to win2000. After the upgrade the computer no logger recognized the oracle install. I could not reinstall it or uninstall it. Can anyone tell me how to manually get oracle off my computer so I can reinstall it under win2000? I do not need to keep any data in the database, it was purely for "practice" and experimentation. |

Go to http://otn.oracle.com, click on 'Sample Code' button at top, look for Oracle by Example link, pull off one of the older links, look at the section to 'clean the machine', read the instructions and [intelligently] adapt for your OS. (You may have to look at several examples to find one that gives details.) Then ignore 8.1.x and go straight to 9.2.x for your future install. Several reasons, including pending obsolescence, should drive this decision. If you REALLY need 8.1.7 compatibiility, search the 9iR2 docco for the word 'compatibiility'. -- /Hans [mailto:`echo $from" | sed "s/yahoo/telusplanet/g"`] |

You are not running the correct edition for win2k, and you need to download the NT personal edition. -- Sybrand Bakker, Senior Oracle DBA |
