Quick crash course in why "db2dasdiag.log" isn't particularly helpful: In DB2, databases are managed as part of an "instance". By default a single database instance is created (usually called "db2inst1" on Linux/ UNIX or "DB2" on Windows), but you can create more later if you wish. Diagnostic information for instances is held in a file called "db2diag.log" (found in C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB\DB2 on Windows or ~db2inst1/sqllib/db2dump/ on Linux/UNIX). There is also a special instance called the "administration" instance. The administration instance cannot contain databases, and there cannot be more than one admin instance. Instead it exists to aid in various administrative functions (e.g. e-mailing health monitor warnings). The admin instance is often referred to as the "DAS" (DB2 Admin Service), and diagnostic information for it can be found in "db2dasdiag.log", which is what you've posted. In other words: given that the admin instance has little or nothing to do with creating databases, it's probably not going to contain anything useful. What *would* be useful is if you could post the error you receive when you attempt to create a database? From a DB2 Command Window (if you're on Windows) or a bash prompt as db2inst1 (if you're on Linux/UNIX) try entering: db2sampl This command attempts to create and populate the "SAMPLE" database. If you get an error, please post the *full* text of it here including any codes at the beginning and end of the message. If it works, try creating your own database. If you get an error, please post the full text of the command you used to create the database (if you're using the Control Center there is usually a "Show Command" button which will display the SQL that the GUI will attempt to execute), along with the full text of the error message you receive. Cheers, Dave. |

| Thanks, Dave, I was able to successfully create SAMPLE db (actually it was done automatically - so it's not my merit but when I try to create my test db (via right click in Control Center), i'm getting the following mysterious message: SQL22205C The DB2 Administration Server encountered an unexpected error while executing a request. Explanation: An unexpected error occurred in the DB2 Administration Server while it was processing a request. User Response: Refer to the DB2 Administration Server's First Failure Data Capture Log for additional information. If trace was active, invoke the Independent Trace Facility at the operating system command prompt. Contact IBM Support with the following required information: o Problem description o SQLCODE or message number o SQLCA contents if possible o Trace file if possible And there's no 'Show Command' button in that dialog box (I guess it's because it's some problem PRIOR to sql command). |
