I downloaded the DB2 runtime client, but the Client Base support and
the TCP protocol do not install. I re-run the setup select them to run
from disk, and they still show as not installed. What am I missing?

I believe that either Windows XP base code, or Windows XP SP2 are supported.

Should work, assuming you downloaded a supported DB2 runtime version. You
didn't identify the DB2 client version or the XP version (home or
professional). You also need to ensure that TCP/IP has already been
configured on the system. If all of this is OK, and I can't tell as you
posted no details, the next thing to do is look in the installation log that
the DB2 client installation created to see what it says.
It's also possible your download was incomplete or corrupted - the log
should hae a suitable message.

and the exact error msgs and perhaps someone can help.

Thank you for your responses! Yes, I was lite on the details, so I will
do my best to fill you in. I am new to the db2 client, so please
forgive my "newbiness".

- The client I downloaded was
DB2 Personal Developer's Edition: Redistributable DB2 Run-Time Client
Lite, english US installer, located here
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data/db2/runtime.html
The installer says it's DB version 8.2
I was not able to find a log of install problems. I searched my
computer for db2.log, and found nothing, nor did I see anything in the
\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB\DB2\log directory, or find anything with the
word log in it.

- My OS is Win XP Pro Sp1

TCP/IP is working- I'm on the internet now from the same machine.
the document outlining the supported OS's indicates that this should
work on my machine

Do I have the right client? are there other software pieces I need?

Can you post the exact error msgs you received?

Well, I am not receiving any error messages, per se. The problem is:

After the installer runs, I run the installer again, and it indicates
that Base Client support , and TCP is not installed. Named Pipes seems
to install OK.

Why would I run the installer again?
Well, I wasn't able to make a connection to my DB2 db on the AS/400,
But i figured if i can't get it to install right, what is the point of
posting errors?

Anyway, I will include the errors i get trying to connect to the DB,
and I did find the install log from the msi installer. (located in my
user's temp folder with a temp name)

As for the error I receive while trying to use the tool:

I am using VS.net 2003, runtime 1.1 sp1

I add a reference to
IBM.Data.DB2

and the following code fails :

From the link I gave you before it says:

* Windows XP and Windows XP Service Pack 2 are supported.

Therefore, I would assume that XP Service Pack 1 is not supported.

Well ... I'm not sure of what the install problem is, but you won't be
able to connect to DB2/400 anyway. That requires DB2 Connect ... you
can't do that with the Run-Time Client alone.

The way I read the chart was that only things with an asterisk * or two
asterisks ** would cause me to look at the footnote. Windows XP pro has
no asterisks next to it for PDE.
