Default Starting DB2 UDBv9 Express-C in a Linux environment

Hi all,

I have gone through the process of installing DB2 UDBv9 Express-C in
my local linux environment. I am used to having icon placed on my
Desktop or taskbar for easy access to (db2cc) Control Center. After
installation, how then can I get access to DB2? How can I place a
desktop icon in linux for easy access to DB2?

Can anyone recommend a book (free or not)that takes a Linux newbie
through the nitty-gritty of Linux and Db2?

Thanks
Okonita

You should have been given the option of having the instance start on bootup
while you were installing so you should be off and running. If not, you
will have to logon (or use su - <db2admin> ) and run "db2admin start". If
you use the control center ("db2cc") which is where the default owner/user
is created you can either set that to start the server when the program
opens or you can issue the command "db2start" from the command editor.
Same thing with the CLI. If I install uder the Gnome environment, I
(usually) get the desktop icons built. You can also create launchers to
get into all the functions, which is what I do since I normally use KDE.
This is under SUSE, BTW.

Odds are that the admin server is starting on boot up. If so, then the
system will tell you when you try to run "db2admin start" as the dasadmin
user.
