Default dropserver

We are on Sql2000 on a Win2003 server and we had to rename the machine.

So I did a:
sp_dropserver xxxx
then sp_addserver aaaa

All appears okay execpt when I do a:

select @@servername --- this is null

If I do select * from sysservers the name appears....

everything things to be functioning properly...

any thoughts ?
