Hi Kurt,

The Developer edition of SQL Server is for development and testing only. It
goes against the terms of the license to use it for any other purpose.

Perhaps you're thinking of MSDE (Microsoft Data Engine) that is free, but
limited to 2GB of data and is configured to slow down when more than 5
concurrent jobs are run. Also, MSDE does not have the nice client tools that
come with SQL Server, the intention is that the application you are
purchasing will have whatever front end you need for SQL Server
housekeeping.

Both of these versions have the same data structure as SQL Server Standard
or Enterprise so upgrading is easy.
