Timeout expired problem

I have a major problem with our sql server 2000 sp3.
I keep getting timeouts when writing to tables witch has to do with booking.
The error I recieve is:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e31'

Timeout expired

If anyone can help me with this problem you would make my day much easier.
