Default backing up and restoring with myphpadmin and mysqldump

I just restored a mysql db that was apx. 250Kb, after restoring, I
noticed that it didn't probably backup the data using mysqldump, but I
received no errors during or after the restore.

So, I then backup the same db with myphpadmin, and now the size is
750K, and after restoring, the database properly works.

Why? I'm afraid that my mysqldump backups are now no good.

Using mysql 5 for all scenarios.

Thanks
