Default equivalent of oracle's nls_date_format

What's the equivalent of doing this:
ALTER SESSION SET nls_date_format='mon-dd-yyyy hh:miam';
on MySQL 5.0? Trying to find the answer with Google keeps returning
MySQL-to-Oracle conversions.
