| Can anyone recommend a good MySQL Host? I don't need website, email, all that crud, just a databae host. Ideally, I want to be able to create many databases at low cost. http://www.hostdepartment.com/mysqlwebhosting/ is nearly ideal, but they offer only MySQL 4.0. Thanks for any recommendations. -Greg |

They are expanding their MySQL coverage. They *are* a traditional web host; however, with their pricing structure, you won't be paying much (if anything) for the unused web hosting. They have been a good, solid host for me for ~6 months. Others may have comments who have used them for longer. Jonathan |

For a paid for one that allows unlimited version 5 dbs try: http://www.myqiq.info/uk/aff.php?aff=023 |

I checked them out, they only support MySQL access from their host (i.e. I need to be running my applications on their website). -Greg |

| After checking out a number of other hosts, I ended up sticking with hostdepartment. They told me they are planning to release 5.x shortly after the new year. Their plan is fantastic, $4/month for unlimited space, traffic, databases and users. They provide external access to the DB too, which is important to me. I haven't used the mysql process too much over there but it looks like the only external connection is SSH (for maintenance). Jonathan |

Allowing remote access to the MySQL database is a big security hole. If you require a server configuration which has remote access to MySQL, you'll probably have to configure your own virtual server or setup something co-located. -- DeeDee, don't press that button! | Well, after not finding anything to my liking, I bought a server and am providing my own MySQL hosting. If you'd care for an account contact me. -Greg gpasq wrote: > Can anyone recommend a good MySQL Host?
