Default ODBC Connector very slow, Win XP Firewall

The connection to my MySQL-server over the LAN was very slow - about 10
second to connect and query on a new installation.
The problem was the Windows XP firewall: After opening the port 3306
(TCP) I had full speed.

Only a note for someone who has the same problem )

Another note is that ODBC is always a lot slower than direct connect (seen as
big slowdown as half the performance from direct connect).

if the port on the windoze xp firewall was closed, there should have
never been a connection! I wonder why it would even let you have a
connection regardless of speed?
