| Hi All, I was running MySQL 5.0.15-community-nt over WinXP/SP2. My instance of MySQL 5.0.15 got corrupted recently: it no longer accepted my root password. I managed to backup that instance and reinstall a new instance, MySQL 5.0.27, which seems to be working properly. Question: Is it safe to restore subdirectories of the former data directory to the data directory of the newly installed instance? Notice that my new instance is a more recent version of MySQL. Regards, Richard |

| Hi All, > Question: Is it safe to restore subdirectories of the former data > directory to the data directory of the newly installed instance? Ok, I copied the data sub-directories for databases I wanted. No problem, at first. However, MySQL didn't see any tables for those databases. So I stopped the server. Renamed ibdata1 to ibdata1-bkup. Copied that saved version. Restarted the server. Tables and their content now seen by MySQL. Seems to work great. Regards, Richard |
