| I am new with MySql and am having problems with the setup and testing. I am running Solaris 10 on a Sun Blade 150. I completed the installation using a binary (v5.0.51) from SunFreeware.com. I then used most of the initial startup and test steps on the Sun site (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/unix- post-installation.html#automatic-start). When I do a ps -ef | grep mysql I see: root 1674 702 0 21:33:08 pts/6 0:00 /bin/sh bin/ mysqld_safe --user=mysql --log mysql 1698 1674 0 21:33:08 pts/6 0:04 /opt/local/mysql/ libexec/mysqld --basedir=/opt/local/mysql --datadir=/opt/local When I run the mysql-test-run I get: mysql-test-run: WARNING: Process 1822 died ERROR: Failed to start master mysqld 0 Aborting: alias failed in default mode. To continue, re-run with '--force'. Stopping All Servers I've tried running the mysql-test-run script with the server running and without the server running. With the same results in both cases. However, with the mysqld server running, if I run for example: mysql- test-run --extern alias analyze it works fine and reports the tests passed. I put in a print statement in the mysql-test-run script just before it starts the server to ensure it is pointing to the correct path for mysqld, and it does. I would like to get all the test cases ran, but I've been scratching my head for a while on this one. Any help would be appreciated. I am trying to get a web server up and running with Apache 2.2.6, PHP 5.2.5, and MySql 5. So far I have Apache 2 and PHP talking OK. I having problems now with getting past this MySql configuration and test. Thanks, Mike |

| I am experiencing the same problem. Environment: Solaris 10 fully patched, running on VMWare 1.0.5 build-80187. mysql from blastwave: common-1.4.5-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg isaexec-0.1-all-CSW.pkg mysql5-5.0.51,REV=2008.01.20-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg mysql5client-5.0.51,REV=2007.12.19-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg mysql5rt-5.0.51,REV=2008.01.20-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg ncurses-5.5,REV=2006.02.10-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg openssl_rt-0.9.8,REV=2007.12.26_rev=g-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg pkg_get-3.8.4-SunOS5.8-all-CSW.pkg pm_dbdmysql-4.006,REV=2008.01.19-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg pm_dbi-1.601,REV=2008.01.24-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg pm_netdaemon-0.43,REV=2008.03.02-SunOS5.8-all-CSW.pkg pm_plrpc-0.2018-SunOS5.8-all-CSW.pkg readline-5.0,REV=2005.06.07-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg zlib-1.2.3,REV=2007.05.12-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg setup steps: [install above packages using pkgadd] cp /opt/csw/mysql5/share/mysql/my-large.cnf /opt/csw/mysql5/ my.cnf cd /opt/csw/mysql5 ./bin/mysql_install_db chown -R mysql:mysql ./var svcadm disable svc:/network/cswmysql5:default svcadm enable svc:/network/cswmysql5:default svcs -xv cswmysql5 /opt/csw/mysql5/bin/mysqladmin -u root password 'password' /opt/csw/mysql5/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h swash password 'password' I'm wondering if this has to do with SMF shutting down the server that the test script starts ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

If all I had available was Google Groups, I wouldn't be on usenet. | Jerry, I am sorry that my post wasn't clear and I appreciate you taking the time to read it. If you would like to point me to a better newsreader I will give it a try; Google groups has worked okay for me in the past; I find the search functionality useful. I am running Solaris 5 on a VMWare virtual machine, running on WindowsXP Pro. It is fairly up to date as far as Solaris updates from Sun. I used pkgadd to install the following packages: common-1.4.5-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg isaexec-0.1-all-CSW.pkg mysql5-5.0.51,REV=2008.01.20-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg mysql5client-5.0.51,REV=2007.12.19-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg mysql5rt-5.0.51,REV=2008.01.20-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg ncurses-5.5,REV=2006.02.10-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg openssl_rt-0.9.8,REV=2007.12.26_rev=g-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg pkg_get-3.8.4-SunOS5.8-all-CSW.pkg pm_dbdmysql-4.006,REV=2008.01.19-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg pm_dbi-1.601,REV=2008.01.24-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg pm_netdaemon-0.43,REV=2008.03.02-SunOS5.8-all-CSW.pkg pm_plrpc-0.2018-SunOS5.8-all-CSW.pkg readline-5.0,REV=2005.06.07-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg zlib-1.2.3,REV=2007.05.12-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg Note that I did not install the Perl CSW package, as Perl is already installed on Solaris. If this was a mistake I apologize, just let me know. I then ran the following commands to complete the install: cp /opt/csw/mysql5/share/mysql/my-large.cnf /opt/csw/mysql5/ my.cnf cd /opt/csw/mysql5 ./bin/mysql_install_db chown -R mysql:mysql ./var svcadm disable svc:/network/cswmysql5:default svcadm enable svc:/network/cswmysql5:default svcs -xv cswmysql5 /opt/csw/mysql5/bin/mysqladmin -u root password 'password' /opt/csw/mysql5/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h swash password 'password' I was able to run /opt/csw/mysql5/bin/mysql and "show databases;" successfully Then I ran the following: cd /opt/csw/mysql5/mysql-test ./mysql-test-run.pl and this produced the following output: Logging: ./mysql-test-run.pl MySQL Version 5.0.51 Skipping ndbcluster, mysqld not compiled with ndbcluster Skipping SSL, mysqld not compiled with SSL Using MTR_BUILD_THREAD = 0 Using MASTER_MYPORT = 9306 Using MASTER_MYPORT1 = 9307 Using SLAVE_MYPORT = 9308 Using SLAVE_MYPORT1 = 9309 Using SLAVE_MYPORT2 = 9310 Using IM_PORT = 9312 Using IM_MYSQLD1_PORT = 9313 Using IM_MYSQLD2_PORT = 9314 Killing Possible Leftover Processes Removing Stale Files Creating Directories Installing Master Database Installing Slave1 Database mysql-test-run: WARNING: running this script as _root_ will cause some tests to be skipped ================================================== ===== Starting Tests in the 'main' suite TEST RESULT TIME (ms) ------------------------------------------------------- mysql-test-run: WARNING: Process 1124 died alias [ fail ] ERROR: Failed to start master mysqld 0 Aborting: alias failed in default mode. I don't use Solaris here, and I know it has some rather restrictive security. Don't know if that's a problem, but it often is.
