Default MYSQL on a duel boot system.

I'm running mysql under Windows XP and Ubuntu with the same data
(database and tables) on both OS's. I would like to have the data
available to both systems, is this possible?
Currently if I'm running Linux and make a change to the database, I dump
the affected tables to a flash drive and restore same the next time I
run Windows and vise-versa.
I've tried centralizing the data directory on both versions only to
discover that Mysql will not connect. I suspect that my problem is that
the 'centralized' location is a NTFS formatted partion!
Suggestions welcome and thanks in advance.
