Default mysqld_safe 100% CPU: how to kill it? On Linux

Hi
when I stop mysql server with "sudo /etc/init.d/mysql stop" the
"mysqld_safe" process go to 100% of CPU and I must to kill it
manually.

What's happens? Ho can I stop it without killing?
